What We Offer
Our interdisciplinary teams create individualized programs for each student. Our innovative teaching and comprehensive curriculum foster personalized academic instruction and integrated clinical and behavioral support.
Our beautiful, 300-acre campus has innumerable activities for students and opportunities to explore new interests and develop friendships in a supportive setting.
Real-world skills: A variety of vocational and community-based learning opportunities allow students to develop and refine their skills and talents. Students gain autonomy, work ethic and social competence through sports, art, gardening and other campus activities.
Supported growth: Our full-time, licensed Board-Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®), completes comprehensive Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and develops Behavior Service Plans (BSP) based on collected data, observations and input from the interdisciplinary team. Teachers, classroom staff, residential staff and parents promote support strategies across all environments.
Complementary therapies: Students’ therapy services are integrated into the classroom and throughout the Pathfinder experience. We provide services per each student’s Individualized Educational Program (IEP), including:
- Speech therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Physical therapy
- Behavior support
- Psychology services
Adapted communication: Students’ individualized modes of communication are supported at Pathfinder School, including low tech and high tech communication devices. Our speech language pathologist, masters level teachers and support staff are trained in the use of Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS®) as well as other Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices and applications.
Movement and exercise: Students participate in gross motor activities and practice fundamental skills with our certified adaptive physical education (APE) instructor.
Healthcare: Residential students access on-site primary health care, medical specialists and psychiatry through long-standing affiliations with accredited and recognized regional medical providers, including Bassett HealthCare Network in Cooperstown, NY.
