School

At Pathfinder School, our small and supportive environment leads students to discover their talents, develop friendships and experience independence. We offer a year-round program; view our current academic year calendar.

Our experienced professionals and our specialized environment make this possible. Through individualized instruction, the use of technology and engaging educational activities, Pathfinder School is a place where students’ talents are recognized and abilities are celebrated.

Real-Life Experiences

Pathfinder students explore our surrounding communities to practice skills related to appropriate social boundaries, safety, and community navigation. Destinations include the Utica Zoo, Adaptive Sports Foundation at Windham, Critz Farm, Windy Hill Orchard, Gilbert Lake State Park, Rogers Environmental Education Center, Wolf Mountain, Owen D. Young Nature Trail and more.

Employment skills

Employment preparation helps students develop higher-level planning, organization and executive functioning skills essential to success in volunteer, supported work, or independent work settings.

We focus on four core work domains:

  • Cleaning
  • Food services
  • Organizing/Packaging & Assembling
  • Agriculture

Students adjust their goals and outcomes as they progress through each domain. Ongoing assessment and instruction, coupled with practice and repetition of skills, create student success.

Transferable skills and concepts include:

  • Maintain good personal hygiene
  • Demonstrate appropriate social/workplace behavior
  • Be safe
  • Be reliable
  • Understand the job requirements
  • Attend to task/complete task
  • Solve problems
  • Ask for help when needed
  • Communicate effectively and cooperate with others
  • Demonstrate an overall motivation to work

Students gain job training experience on and off-campus. The Pathfinder Village campus includes thriving businesses that welcome the local community, including our Village Inn, bakery and café and weekly produce market. Our community partners include small businesses, schools and community centers.

Through these programs, students develop transferable life skills, form meaningful relationships and build community connections.

Check out our programs for students age 16-21!
