Pathfinder Produce to open 2nd Market in Morris
New location at the United Methodist Church on Friday afternoons
Edmeston, New York, October 13, 2016 … Pathfinder Village proudly announces it is expanding its popular Pathfinder Produce fresh fruit and vegetable market to a second location at the United Methodist Church, 117 Church Street in Morris. The Grand Opening for the new market is on Friday, October 28, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The new produce outlet is a community partnership among the United Methodist Church, the Morris Central School 5210 Program, and Pathfinder Village. Local 5210 programs are coordinated through the Bassett Research Institute, Cooperstown, which works to encourage regional residents to cultivate better health through four key daily practices: eating five servings of fruits and vegetables, limiting recreational screen time to two hours, exercising for one hour, and eliminating all sugar-laden beverages.
The Morris market will be organized at the United Methodist Church Hall by members of Pathfinder’s Adult Day Services Program, which presently staffs the popular Thursday market offered at the Pathfinder campus in Edmeston. A wide selection of fresh produce will be featured and competitively priced to help Morris-area families meet their nutritional needs. Weekly market updates and prices are available through an email list, are posted at Pathfinder Village’s Facebook page, as well as at the market blog, pathfinderproduce.blogspot.com
“Our produce market has helped over 100 local families gain access to healthful, fresh fruits and vegetables each week, and Pathfinder Produce also provides a meaningful and productive program for the members of our Adult Day Services Program,” said Pathfinder’s Sr. Director of Ancillary Services Dan Osborn. “Many families in our area have difficulties accessing fresh produce, due to far distances to larger grocery stores. Our weekly market has provided a friendly, convenient, cost-savings way for families to eat better.”
The Edmeston market will continue at its present location and time slot, each Thursday at the Village Commons at Pathfinder Village from 1 to 5 p.m.
Pathfinder Village is an internationally respected open-access community in upstate New York, and was founded in 1980 to provide people living with Down syndrome and other disabilities an independent and fulfilling lifestyle. As it works to provide quality supports for older individuals living with ID, the Village also offers highly successful educational, pre-vocational and outreach programs.
