What We Offer
A Beautiful, 300-Acre Campus
On our spacious country campus, we offer a variety of vocational experiences that allow students to explore, develop, and refine their skills and talents. The results are powerful. Students gain autonomy, work ethic, and social competence.
On a typical day, a student might be found learning to play basketball with other students in an adaptive physical education class, creating a piece of unique art in art class, connecting with mom or dad via Skype™ technology or harvesting produce from a Village garden.
Individualized Instruction, Innovative Teaching, and Therapeutic Support
Through innovative teaching and a comprehensive curriculum, our unique educational setting fosters individualized academic instruction, attention, and integrated clinical and behavioral support.
Our interdisciplinary teams collaborate to design and implement individualized programs for each student. Related services of speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, behavior support and psychology services are provided as per each student’s Individualized Educational Program (IEP). Recognizing the importance of consistency and carryover therapy services are integrated into the classroom. This is especially valuable when addressing students’ communication needs. At Pathfinder School we use the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS®) to help students initiate communication with a variety of communication partners. It is not unusual to see students traveling throughout the school with their communication book or iPad ® in hand. Movement and exercise are important, too. At Pathfinder School, students can regularly be found in our gymnasium exercising or practicing fundamental skills with our certified adaptive physical education (APE) instructor.
To lead students toward greater independence our full-time, licensed Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®), completes comprehensive Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and develops Behavior Service Plans (BSP) based on collected data, observations, and input from the interdisciplinary team. Our BCBA works with teachers, classroom staff, residential staff, and parents to promote use of support strategies across all environments.
Students’ healthcare needs are supported by on-site nursing. Our residential students access primary health care, medical specialists, and psychiatry through long standing affiliations with accredited and recognized regional medical providers, including Bassett HealthCare Network in Cooperstown, NY.
